As Ohio State nears hire of Justin Frye as offensive line coach, he must fix this potential problem


COLUMBUS, Ohio — When Ohio State football landed the highest-rated class of recruits in program history in 2021, it put a target on 2023 as a potentially historic season. The quarterback(s), running back, edge rushers and cornerbacks who anchored that class would all be entering their third seasons. Projecting ahead as of today, all of those positions remain on schedule to lay a championship foundation. Toss on the continued wide receiver development, emerging defensive tackle talent and incoming linebacker prospects and the 2023 Buckeyes are coming together according to plan. Except on the offensive line, where there are no obvious answers to the possibility that NFL-level tackles who may leave after the coming season. As Justin Frye’s long-rumored hire as offensive line coach is finalized today, his first goal is to course-correct as quickly as possible.
