Ohio State football schedules Youngstown State for 2023, replacing San Jose State


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s 2023 schedule now includes an in-state opponent instead of a visitor from the west coast. Youngstown State will play at Ohio Stadium on Sept. 9, 2023. The Penguins replace previously scheduled opponent San Jose State. An Ohio State spokesperson said OSU and SJU “mutually agreed” to cancel that game contract. The Buckeyes have only played YSU twice previously. Under Jim Tressel, who won four Division I-AA (now FCS) national championships with the Penguins, OSU won 38-6 in 2007 and 41-0 in 2008. Tressel now serves as President at YSU. Ohio State is also scheduled to play Western Kentucky at home and at Notre Dame in 2023. It opens the season at Indiana, making the YSU game the home opener.
