On Ohio State’s blitzing safeties, Kourt Williams II’s injury and Lathan Ransom’s breakthrough: Buckeye Bits

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s safeties have contributed both to a run defense quickly plugging leaks and a pass defense known for taking down receivers at the point of the catch. Might that group also soon contribute more to the Buckeyes’ pass rush? According to Pro Football Focus, OSU safeties have blitzed 19 times in the first six games. Mike linebacker Tommy Eichenberg alone has blitzed twice that often. Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles said earlier this week, though, that there is more to his self-titled “safety driven defense” than he has shown so far.
