For three quarters on Thursday night, Minnesota’s women’s basketball team played about as good a game as they could against unbeaten and third-ranked Ohio State. The Buckeyes took it all away in a matter of minutes. Ohio State scored the first 12 points of the fourth quarter, erasing a five-point deficit and never looking back in an 83-71 victory over the Gophers at Williams Arena. Taylor Mikesell scored a game-high 20 points and Rikki Harris added 19 as the Buckeyes set a program record with a 16-0 start and improved to 5-0 in the Big Ten. The Gophers led 61-55 after three quarters but missed their first five shots of the fourth quarter — all layups — as the Buckeyes scored 12 straight for a 69-61 lead that was never seriously challenged.
