COLUMBUS, Ohio — Even in a loss to Penn State, the Ohio State basketball team gave its fans more to be proud of than in any of the previous 26 games combined, using it to spark something positive. The Buckeyes surely weren’t the better team and weren’t home to the better player, but it at least put forth an effort that suggests that maybe a win was possible. Even the idea of such an accomplishment had become a tireless concept inside an embarrassingly low-attended Schottenstein Center because anybody who cared about this team had given up. They left that Thursday night on a nine-game losing streak — the longest in 25 years — and a 4-14 record since New Year’s Day.
