Jim Knowles spent the winter evaluating Ohio State’s defense after his first season as coordinator. There are a few things he wants to change. One is the frequency of his linebacker rotation. The Buckeyes rotated well on defense last season. Nine defensive linemen played at least 100 snaps, per TruMedia. Ten defensive backs played at least 100 snaps, although the secondary had major injury issues. Advertisement Linebacker snaps weren’t shared as much, and for good reason. Ohio State’s 4-2-5 defense allows for only two linebackers on the field in most sets. In that case, the best players are going to play. That meant Tommy Eichenberg and Steele Chambers. Eichenberg was second on the defense in snaps with 733 and led the team with 120 tackles. Chambers was third on the defense in snaps with 665 and second with 77 tackles.
