Ohio State’s Sonny Styles feeling old for 18 as 2-year plan pays off

COLUMBUS, Ohio — One day before Ohio State football plays the biggest game of the season, Sonny Styles will turn 19 years old. At the start of the season, that made him the baby of a veteran defense stocked with late-career veterans and multi-year starters. Last week against Michigan State, with true freshman Malik Hartford replacing injured sixth-year senior Josh Proctor, Styles suddenly felt old. “Denzel and IGB — those are leaders in our secondary,” Styles said of cornerbacks Denzel Burke and Davison Igbinosun. “But I felt like I had to step up for the safety room to be a leader.” Ohio State held out optimism that senior and two-year starter Lathan Ransom would return from his unspecified lower-body injury for the regular-season finale against Michigan.
