
CLEVELAND, Ohio — When Heath Schneider creeps close enough to one of his hidden treasures, he feels a tug in his heart. Schneider, a retired Air Force veteran from Wellington, Ohio, feels the pull every time he drives through Toledo, also known as “the dividing line” between Michigan and Ohio State, in Schneider dialect. He’s a Buckeye super fan, and during one of his deployments Up North, he planted two pieces of OSU history in enemy territory. Schneider wonders if they’re still standing. Wonders if his plants are still thorning his Wolverine-loving neighbors (those poor, sick people). And every time he passes through Toledo, he reminds his wife: “It’s just one more hour,” he’ll say in the car. “We can go see if those things have grown up.” They can go anywhere, really.
