Ohio State’s baseball team picked up a crucial 4-2 win over visiting Penn State on Friday. The Buckeyes (26-23, 8-11 Big Ten) are fighting for one of the final spots of the eight-team Big Ten Tournament. The conference has 13 teams, and only eight advance to the league tourney in Omaha later this month. Ohio State is currently 10th in the Big Ten standings with a chance to move up this weekend, plus next weekend when the Buckeyes travel to 11th-place Purdue. Against last-place Penn State (20-23, 3-17), the Buckeyes were led by fourth-year junior second baseman Matt Carpenter who was 2-for-5 on the evening. Sophomore catcher Dillon Dingler and third-year sophomore designated hitter Brent Todys were each 1-for-3 with an RBI. Ohio State’s relief pitchers were on point against the Nittany Lions.
