Joe Hermitt | jhermitt@pennlive.com On Thursday, the 2023 No. 1 interior offensive lineman in the nation, Alex Birchmeier, committed to the Nittany Lions. Birchmeier made his announcement on Twitter Thursday afternoon. Birchmeier is ranked as the 42nd overall recruit in the Class of 2023, according to 247Sports composite ranking. Birchmeier, from Ashburn, Va., made an unofficial visit to Penn State in June for the team’s “Whiteout Camp.” The 6-foot-5, 275-pound recruit had offers from a number of top schools around the country, including Ohio State, Georgia and Notre Dame.
